I have recently moved to A Coruna and have a working resident visa. As you can see on my CV I have worked at the same IB school since 2005. In the fall of 2013 I left a job I enjoyed very much for an opportunity to join the faculty of a new charter school, University Prep Academy, St. Petersburg, as a Director of Curriculum to help inner city students. While I learned a lot in that year. My time there only reinforced my belief in the models, philosophy and methodology I had been refining prior to and continue to develop to this day.
I am an experienced Primary Years Program (PYP) educator and have worked in the International Baccalaureate framework since 2005. Because of my desire to be flexible and move to where I am needed at the school. I have experience teaching 5th grade, middle school life science, a multi-age (3rd, 4th and 5th) life science and finally a 1st and 2nd grade multi-age classroom teacher. This background has afforded me the opportunity to become familiar with a variety of age groups and disciplines. To assist with the schools goal of creating globally minded citizens I have been part of the International School Connections programme as a co-chair. Also, I have been part of the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) reaccreditation team since 2008.
It has been a privilege to work at a school that practices cooperative learning and has a strong emphasis on differentiated instruction. I have had extensive professional training in these areas. In 2011 I was certified in gifted education through the University of South Florida. It is my philosophy that every student can learn and it is my job as a teacher to facilitate their growth to reach their highest potential. My lessons factor in different learning styles and often incorporate the use of manipulatives, music, storytelling, mnemonic devices and alternative methods of assessment.
